When you receive your Mia’s Muzzle, the straps may need some adjustment in order to achieve the perfect fit. Normally we want the muzzle to sit ¼”-½” away from the end of the nose, which may require the straps to be tightened or loosened accordingly. As well, the chin portion of the strap (underneath the jaw) should be snug enough to help keep the muzzle on, but still loose enough to comfortably fit a couple of fingers underneath, similar to a collar.

Common Fixes

Ideal Fit

Small gap in front of nose, collar strap secure all the way around head and neck; muzzle should have a few millimetres of movement when pulled forward, but then stop and remain
secure.

Additional ways of stabilizing/securing the muzzle

In addition to the full collar strap, standard on all muzzles, here are are some additional ways of securing the muzzle if needed:

Secure it with a carabiner to the collar through the bottom carabiner hole.

Use a Collar Loop to aid in anchoring it to the dog’s collar at the back of the head and prevent it from slipping up and over the ears.

Order a Forehead Strap for brachycephalic dogs (e.g. French bulldogs, pugs, Boston Terriers), for dogs with a short nose:large pant ratio (e.g. bully breeds, St. Bernards, Mastiffs), or for dogs in which there is risk of another dog potentially grabbing at the muzzle and pulling it; the forehead strap is removable if it’s not needed.
